Hire Back Better

“There is no limit to what we as women can accomplish.” – Michelle Obama

Four years ago, we embarked on a national tour with our Project150 to learn from women across the country. We discovered that minorities and immigrant women are disproportionately underemployed or unemployed in Canada. In addition, the pandemic has further exacerbated this employment inequality; in order to have a more inclusive economic recovery post-pandemic, now is the best time for all employers to act..

So, this year as we continue to celebrate Women's History Month we are asking employers and companies to #hirebackbetter.

Why “hire back better”?

Well for us at GROW Women Leaders (GROW), Women's History Month is a time to recognize the various efforts of women in our society— spotlighting the many women who have selflessly given themselves to improve the lives of their families, communities, and the world-at-large!

To begin an economic recovery that will include all, during and post-pandemic, GROW will embark upon a new initiative called the “Hire Back Better campaign” aimed at pushing for equitable employment for all, especially among minorities and immigrant women. We are seeking employers and elected officials to prioritize diversity and equity in the Canadian workforce by providing more support to employment equity for minority women. This can be done through creating and implementing policies and supports. How we begin to do this is two-fold, firstly awareness and secondly training and support.

1. Awareness and new policies will create careers.

A key strategy of the Hire Back Better campaign will be seeking the support of elected officials to prioritize diversity and equity in the Canadian workforce, by providing additional support to employment equity through creating and implementing policies, included but not limited to workplace diversity, childcare, flexible work hours, the gender wage gap and equitable career advancement opportunities in every sector, in every province.

2. Training support with the Canadian Career Plus Program (CC+P™️)

Through this campaign, we are helping increase employers’ awareness on equity and diversity as well as enabling them to learn how our Canadian Career Plus Program (CC+P™️) can help them create employment equity among women, especially minorities and immigrants communities—such as connecting their companies with educated and immigrant women while providing training within their companies to help women grow.

The campaign is launching this month and we invite you to support us by spreading the word to your friends, family, and professional networks. For more information about this campaign visit here.
